Are you an expert voter?

expert-voter.jpg

Wish you were more informed on where the candidates stand on important issues but don’t have the time to do all the research yourself? Well, ExpertVoter.org may be the answer for you!

This site is one of the coolest efforts to inform voters that I’ve ever seen!

Basically the site uses YouTube as its source for video of each candidate. Users can submit links to videos where candidates speak directly to the issue at hand. The clips then appear on the site. Each clip that appears on the site is under five minutes long, and users can rate the clip based on how much they agree with the candidate’s position and whether or not it is on topic. Users can also leave comments on the candidate’s position which should help promote further dialog about the issues.

The main drawback that I see to this site is that it does basically reduce a candidate’s entire philosophy down to a quick sound byte. But since most Americans are more likely to vote based on what they hear and see in a quick clip than they are to thoroughly research a candidate’s positions, I think a tool like this could go a long way toward educating the voting public.

Kudos to whoever came up with this site. And to “Gary” for telling me about it in the post about Obama’s Apple/Mac spoof ad.

  1. good stuff. though, i wonder…does simply never voting for either of the two major parties make you an expert voter in and of itself? i like to think so :)

  2. Lord, let’s just say that we can always use more expert voters…
