The One Campaign has launched a new initiative called One Sabbath. It aims to call people of faith to gather and “learn more about global health issues such as AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, as well as alleviating the suffering caused by extreme poverty, clean water and educational opportunities. ” One is asking congregations to host a One Sabbath event during the weekend of November 23rd-25th.
While this effort is directed at people of all “faith traditions,” the Christian component is pretty cool. In addition to the free group materials (which include liturgy, community prayers and discussion questions), you can also order a free copy of Rob Bell’s NOOMA video titled “Rich” to view during your meeting.
This could be a great opportunity for you pastors and small group leaders out there to engage your communities on some of those “social justice” issues everyone seems to be talking about these days.
(If there is local interest among you Rochester folks, give me a shout. We won’t be able to do it on the actual weekend they’re planning for, but we would certainly be interested in hosting if there were enough interest on a different weekend.)
