Recognize this fella? That’s a young Brian McLaren sporting a rather groovy v-neck on the cover of his 1978 self-published LP titled Learning How to Love. The folks over at Heavenly Grooves – a site dedicated to the preservation of vintage Christian rock albums – have recently digitized the record and posted it online for free download.
According to their review it ain’t half bad!
I’m chomping at the bit to give this thing a listen. I know I was playfully critical of his most recent musical endeavor, but I can’t wait to hear this lost gem!
UPDATE: I’ve had a chance to listen to it a couple of times now and it’s not half bad. If you keep in mind that it’s a) 30 years old, b) an independent recording, and c) clearly a product of the post-hippie “Jesus Movement” era and it can be fairly enjoyable!
I haven’t had a chance to really get a handle on the album, so I’m just posting the first two tracks as a sample as opposed to one or two favorites. Hope you enjoy!
