And speaking of controversial Christian rock from the early ’90s, who could possibly forget Lust Control?
The band was originally going to call themselves Talking Ass – after the biblical story of Balaam and his donkey – until a concerned deacon talked them out it. They recorded their first demo, This is a Condom Nation, as a joke – but it quickly caught on in the underground Christian music scene. They played their first live gig at the Cornerstone festival in 1989.
In 1992 they released We Are Not Ashamed which featured such controversial tunes as “You Make Me Puke,” “Return to Vomit,” “The Virginity Disease,” and “The Big M.”
