Jay-Z is hilarious.

In case you missed it there was a bit of controversy over the decision to ask him to headline this year’s Glastonbury Festival. The most vocal critic was Noel Gallagher of Oasis, who upon hearing the news had this to say in an interview with the BBC:

“Sorry, but Jay-Z? F—ing no chance. Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music, do you know what I mean? … I’m not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It’s wrong.”

So what was Jay-Z’s response when he took the stage at the festival this past weekend?

  1. HA! Sucky…But Kinda Funny at the same time!

You know…if he actually put some time into it…he could have really done some funky stuff with that song and made it pretty cool!

  2. yeah, i was waiting for the hiphop to come out. but, still, i love oasis and for some reason respect Jay-Z so i think that was awesome.

  3. Jay-Z is on my (very) short list of hiphop acts I dig. I haven’t listened much since “The Black Album” but I like his talent and his swagger. And the swagger was on full display with this one.

It’s also funny to me because it works on so many levels. Gallagher’s main complaint – after it being hiphop – was that Glastonbury was known for “guitar music” and is geared toward more “indie” artists. The commercial success of Jay-Z was a bone of contention for him.

So what does Jay-Z do? Point out Gallagher’s hypocrisy by picking up a guitar and performing one of their most commercially successful mega-hits at the festival. Terrific.

But I’m with Jim. I still love Oasis.

  4. it was funny. i just dont’ understand why jay-z is so big in hip hop (says the guy who grew up in a log cabin in the middle o’ maine). lyrically there are about a dozen guys much better…talib kweli, common, mos def, nas, black thought from the roots, mr. lif…but, (with the exception of nas), intelligence doesn’t sell. like w/ obama, talking about jay-z, i’m thinking dude! talib & common both name dropped you on their last albums. THEY should be on your i-pod! and what the hell is a HOVA anyways?!?!

  5. that was very funny…i was waiting for him to go alittle hip hop on too…i also enjoyed how he was dressed like noel…

  6. i always picked up on that resemeblance when we were in school. maybe that’s why i love oasis, b/c i love jimmy 🙂

and i think it’s time for jimmy to start a bloog.
