The 12 Tunes of Christmas – Day 5

Today’s tune is a recent rendition of an old country music Christmas staple. “Blue Christmas” was written by Billy Hayes and Jay W. Johnson and first released by Ernest Tubb in 1948. It was later made exponentially more popular when Elvis Presley included it on his 1957 Christmas album.

This version is by Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes and is available on the Saddle Creek release A Christmas Album. Proceeds from the sale of the album benefit the Nebraska AIDS Project.
