“My body is theirs to do what they want with.”

If you find yourself short on heroes these days, please allow me to introduce you to Said Musa.

In a few short days he is scheduled to be executed in Afghanistan. His crime? Converting to Christianity.

Said Musa (also; Sayd Musa, Sayed Mossa) is an amputee; having lost his leg in a land mine explosion in the 1990s. For the past 15 years he has worked with the Red Cross, bringing relief to other amputees as a physiotherapist.

For the past eight months he has been held prisoner in Kabul after a television station showed Westerners baptizing new Afghani Christians during secret ceremonies. While in prison Musa has been tortured and sexually abused by inmates and guards. Defense attorneys have refused to help him after receiving death threats.

While abandoned by his fellow countrymen and facing execution, he has not taken his eyes off Jesus:

“My body is their to do what they want with. Only God can decide if my spirit goes to hell.”

The closest thing to religious persecution most of us have ever had to endure is scoff and rejection after an awkward conversation. This man’s new found faith in Jesus has brought him torment and in a few short days – execution.

Please remember Said in your prayers over the coming days. And may his example advance Christ’s kingdom in a hostile and cursed world.
